I love this so much. I know it’s rather easy because the description tells you what to do, but I enjoy the narrative aspect. I love interpreting text to solve puzzles! I also just enjoy how cozy the art is. Wonderful!

I really enjoyed this game and think it showcased a classic puzzle mechanic through a novel idea. The imprecision of language and memory can create wonderful ambiguity, and it's a fertile concept to sow when designing instructional puzzles with an unreliable narrator. The core mechanic has been done a little - I'm thinking this is right on par with those Professor Layton style lateral hair-pullers. But what I haven't seen a lot of is playing around with misdirection and contradiction. The game becomes as much a logic puzzle as an exercise in interpretation, and it sort of makes it morph into its own thing as the player wrestles with their own translation of what they assume the narrator meant. I assume that's intentional and think that's really neat. If anything, the players sharing their maps that look completely different is a really fun thing and reinforces it a lot. You could absolutely draw out this idea, but the one-level structure showcases it without overstaying its welcome. Awesome stuff!

The person giving the description of this path is absolutely terrible at giving directions… so little of it makes sense - is the path beside the house 1 straight square as well? Does a turn mean just the L or does it mean the L and the straight part after it? I couldn’t figure it out. “Here, draw your own dang map” LOL

No matter how many times I follow the directions, this is the closest I end up with, and the last two steps completely break it.

  1. try not to spoil the puzzle for others
  2. you are close but may be overdoing a certain previous step in your path creation

I tried to put it far enough down to not be a spoiler, from what I saw just the top row appeared… I went through the steps several times, so I’m not sure which step I’m over-doing, they all line up with what’s being said until the very last two parts where it mentions scenery :(

Are you saying that the map you're trying to recreate is a pretty Confusing Map™?

It’s a HeckinConfusingMap LOL

Really enjoyed this one! The personality coming through the directions was so charming, it made me want to do my best. 🙂 The look and the way that features combine were really nice too.

I totally expected (look after show more for spoilers)

something at the end to royally mess up something at the beginning, and the location of 'go south' made it harder for me hahaha, but i did eventually get it :)

For me it’s how the last two parts are supposed to work… This person gives terrible directions lol. I need to see a spoiler for this one.

Another nice one, reminds me of conversations with my grandma haha

this is lovely! i really like the progression of hints. it strikes a good balance between not too difficult and not too obvious. and it makes a nice scene in the end :)

Really like this, but I'm not sure if I arrived at the solution. Is there a end screen? My favorite part is the description of the author's favorite spot with the mountain and the tree - it really made this pixelated environment feel much more real. You're doing a lot with very little here. Nice work.

Glad you like it! :-D

The game does tell you when you get to the right solution.

Ah figured it out! I had got confused by the surrounding tree part, but reading through and taking things literally really helped.

Interesting idea for a puzzle game.  Unfortunately the text gets cut off for me down at the bottom.  Is there a way to scroll the text or make it smaller so it fits in that box?

Hi! That's definitely not expected. Could you share a screenshot so I can have a better understanding of what's wrong?

Sure!  See attached.

I see, thanks! Looks like I made that textbox too tight and it's not being rendered nicely in all web browsers. Just uploaded a new version with a quick patch for that.

Nice!  Seems to be working now.
