The night spoke our names
A tiny game where you roll dice, use them to activate skills, and hope to survive the winter. You can press F to toggle fullscreen.
Given all the good feedback this game has received, I'm experimenting with a bigger version but, since I already have a big project, it's going to be slow.
The game isn't super deep, but it's meant to be a bit challenging. You should be able to win every run if you use the mechanics wisely.
Originally made for GG22, then I took extra time for balancing and audio.
The game features a color palette by Poltergasm and music by Sara Garrard. The cover image is from the British Library archive. Inspired by Dicey Dungeons, The Yawhg, and other things.

Would love an expansion for this game. I came back to it after a couple years.
I've been swamped with work but doing a new project along these lines has been very present on my mind and I think I'll eventually get to work on it.
It took me infinite time but i finally got it, nice game
Yay I survived winter! At first I didn't realized there were arrows for more dice options...I was like how can I possibly survive?! XD
This is great! Would love to see the people of the group together hehe
Nice game!
I keep coming back to play this game from time to time. It's just great.
That was fun! The difficulty is pretty well balanced and it takes a lot more strategy than I initially thought it would, but not so much that it becomes frustrating! Though I didn't realise at first you needed to drag & drop the dice so I kept clicking the boxes c': Once I realised though it made way more sense lol :P
Also I have a tiny suggestion! Once you unlock all the people, that page just takes up space, so I thought it might help to make it so its skipped over once its all unlocked to make navigating the pages quicker! I have no idea if you're still working on this game or not, but I thought I'd suggest just in case c:
Oh also I love the music, really adds to the atmosphere <3
I always had a similar idea and wanted to try to make it, but this game gave me some hope! will it be okay for you?
Hi there! I don't have a copyright on dice games. Like I said, this is inspired by Dicey Dungeons and without it, this one wouldn't exist. Go ahead and make your game and, if you feel it's way too close to this one, try to add a new twist or fix what's not fully working.
Sure do! This will be my first game, i hope it will be to my liking, have a great day and thanks!
The game is incredibly clever and a good amount of challenging. Some things I'd like to see added though would be "degrees" of succsess for how many extra resources you end with in the form of a few endings , and visuals to match the atmosphere
I enjoy it, I see it as a demo, but with a true potencial
I really like this game! I wish there were more places to research. The night phase wasn't a problem after I got more dice.
I love the theme and atmosphere!
Gonna play again!
Pretty cool concept!
I'm back here again to say I loved the music, I can't get it out of my head.
I don't get why people are saying this is difficult? You max out your villagers asap and you're good.
The first time I tried that I busted cause I had too many dice with too little actions left. Lol
Really Great game, i like that it balanced very nicely between being difficult without being frustrating.
It was fun half hour. Good game!
Great little game. It's a strong idea that I could see being developed into something larger. Great work!
I loved playing non stop till I finished it. Strangely addictive!!
A load of fun!! Challenging at first but really intuitive
Ooooh! I would love an endless version of the game.
Nicely done. Very intriguing game with a much deeper system than appears on the surface. You really do have to think and strategize how best to allocate your resources, when not everything is under your control. I'll be playing more of this. :)
Happy to hear you enjoyed it that much!
Of course! Keep up the good work.
Really fun - I hope you consider expanding it out when you have time!
Right! As I said in other comments, I'll expand this concept at some point.
AHA, survived at last! I think it took me 5+ tries not counting a few times I refreshed in disgust after the first couple nights ... Definitely grabs you and gives a sense of urgency->satisfaction, I was hooked.
Nice game!
Only thing I would recommend is a volume control. Great game!
great idea and execution,
would love to see an updated version with more animations/graphics
Hi there! I'm a bit busy with a bigger project now (plus other side-projects). But I'm really happy to see people enjoying this prototype more than I thought. I'll definitely expand this concept at some point. Thought right now I can't say when that will happen or the shape it'll have.
I REALLY LIKE THE CONCEPT BUT I CAN'T BEAT IT WTF IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE???
Hi! Really happy to see you liked the concept.
The game is meant to be a bit challenging, but it's not random. Once you understand the systems, you should be able to win every run. People who are familiar with games like this tend to start winning in just 2-3 tries. And people who are super used to these mechanics might even win their first run.
I don't want to spoil anything, but the game is quite small and, once you start seeing the key synergies, you'll start winning. I hope you make it to the end! It's all about figuring out the right actions to use.
Okay then! I will do my best and even spend over several hours if I have to! Also props to the composer or to anyone who chose the music!
upd: I DID IT.
Thank you for a nice experience uwu
yaaaay, congrats! :-D
Interesting game, wish it was longer. Congrats!

Excellent! ❤️
This was really fun, and a good challenge- took me three attempts to beat. 10/10, well done!!
Managed to squeeze the dice in the last night and survive, would love to see a longer version of it!
Thanks! Knowing people are curious about a longer version is very interesting. I have a bigger project I'm trying to finish this year but I'll definitely keep this in mind.
I enjoyed it! I was a long way from surviving on my first play so will have to give it another go
Nice little game, not so easy to figure out how to not get devoured by the night.
A cool little single-player dice game!
I definitely didn't understand the first time through and failed. The next time through I understood the mechanics and goals, but it still wasn't until the last turn that I was able to actually pull it off!
Well balanced to create tension!
